Teaching Session #48 - Sunday 8th May 6.30pm
The Letter to the Romans
Main speaker - Graham Wilkins
Host for the evening - Raymond Shergill
"For this evening we will be looking at the whole book of Romans. To go through it in detail would take many hours! So I hope to pick some key themes and help us understand what it is about and why, and give clues as to how we can follow Paul’s thinking. There are several rather convoluted arguments which, because of the culture at the time, may not make much sense to us. Also we can misunderstand why or what Paul is saying because we don’t understand the context.
So to understand Paul’s letter to the Romans, we need some background and information on the culture of the people he was writing to. We need to see that although most of that culture is alien to us, Paul is laying down principles and answering questions that are just as appropriate for us today and also inform our understanding of the rest of the New Testament.
I hope that the teaching on May 8th will enable us to read Romans afresh, with the tools to follow and enjoy understanding what gets the Apostle Paul so excited in this letter!"
Have your Bible ready, bring an open and enquiring mind and as always plenty of questions.
